Yeah, exactly :D Some of the stuff I know (like the fact that hybrids can't be grown again from the seed from the previous year's crop) but I didn't know about the... shall we say, open source hybrids? before I read your explanations, so that's pretty interesting and puts a new spin on the whole debate (for me, at least :P)
also thanks :D We use the term vulgarisation in French in the sense of "making something accessible to the people" (the sense of vulgaire = sexy is coming along but there's still a strong sense of vulgaire = that belongs to the not-noble/rich people) so I tend to use it in English but I didn't realize it didn't quite mean the same thing until you pointed it out :P
