Ha it's nice to know someone noticed the names thing with Jack! Yeah, Magda is very much a "social climber" type, she starts out on a passenger train crew and then as Sal's shop gets more successful (and when she has a baby at home) she transitions to mostly doing the bookkeeping/paperwork for the shop, maybe taking a train shift here and there to keep her hand in. That's partly why she really dislikes Rokia's Mom and mildly dislikes Rokia and her sisters up until Rokia is a Victor, they're reminders of Salif's low-class past and they "drag him down." Also why post-war Magda doesn't want anything to do with his side of the family, she blames Rokia for him getting killed and it's just all-around bad.

Ha, I like taking the districts nobody else cares much about, it means I feel free to do whatever I want with them :D
